Report: Celtic want 29-cap winger – but Rangers are also keen

Celtic are looking to bring AZ Alkmaar winger Albert Gudmundsson to Parkhead on a free transfer next summer, that they face competition from Rangers for the 24-year-old.

Gudmundsson is out of contract with the Eredivisie side at the end of the season. He has scored six goals in all competitions this term, including two in the Europa Conference League. In total, he has scored 24 times in 93 appearances for the club.

that club from across Europe are tracking Gudmundsson, including both Rangers and Celtic.

Of course, Gers boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst will be well aware of what the Iceland international can do. Gudmundsson has spent his entire professional career in the Netherlands with PSV Eindhoven, and now AZ.

Van Bronckhorst meanwhile, spent four years managing in the same division with Feyenoord.

Free transfer may make Gudmundsson move a no-brainer for Rangers or Celtic

Gudmundsson has tended to play on the right of a 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3 for AZ this season. But he is also capable of playing up front, or on the opposite flank.

For Rangers, it has predominantly been Ianis Hagi who has occupied that sort of area. He has previously been linked with a move away from Ibrox. So perhaps the Gers are preparing in case they need to keep their options open.

Liel Abada has made a bright start to life at Celtic following his summer arrival. But Ange Postecoglou’s men still lack depth in wide areas going forward.

And with Gudmundsson set to be available on a free transfer, it could unquestionably prove to be a really shrewd move for either club should they net his signature.
