Report: Celtic to offer long-term contract to Premier League midfielder
Celtic are set to offer James McCarthy a contract in January as they look to bolster their midfield ranks,
The Republic of Ireland international has grown up as a lifelong supporter of the Hoops and has been indented as a successor to Scott Brown.
It is thought as though Celtic are ready to offer him a long-term contract in a bid to lure him away from the Premier League.
The 30-year-old has been at Crystal Palace since joining from Everton in the summer of 2019.
He has played 40 games for the Eagles but has found himself out of favour during the 2020/21 campaign.
He has featured just five times for Roy Hodgson this season and hasn’t made the squad for five of the last six games.
Celtic are in disarray right now. They were beaten 2-0 by Ross County yesterday to lose a Scottish League Cup game for the first time in four years.
Neil Lennon has also overseen an early exit from the Europa League; claiming just one point from their first four group games.
McCarthy will probably be open to the idea of joining a club so close to his heart – especially as he isn’t playing at Selhurst Park.

The Hoops are in desperate need of something, or someone, to give them a pick me up.
McCarthy perhaps isn’t the most exciting name but he’s a player who is vastly experienced when it comes to playing in a top league.
He has 42 caps to his name for the Republic of Ireland and his presence in the midfield could make him a decent addition.
Celtic must do something in January and although the McCarthy wouldn’t be a spectacular signing, he would at least represent a solid one.
