Report: Celtic step up James McCarthy interest amid Scott Brown concerns
Celtic are planning to step up their interest in James McCarthy this summer amid concerns over Scott Brown, .
, Celtic have been linked with the Crystal Palace midfielder for much of the window. And it is suggested that the Hoops are confident that they will be able to land McCarthy ahead of a number of Premier League admirers.

90min suggests that Neil Lennon’s men have stepped up their interest as they have concerns over Brown’s chances of remaining a stalwart throughout the season.
The report adds that Celtic want to bring a new signing in now ahead of Brown’s deal expiring next summer. And McCarthy – who earns £50,000-a-week at Selhurst Park, – is reportedly their first-choice.

TBR View: Celtic right to plan for life after Brown, but don’t write captain off just yet
It would be naive to suggest that Brown can get back to his very best. He is now 35 and he has made a poor start to the season.
However, it is not the first time that the captain seems to have been written off. He has bounced back before, and it would be foolish to suggest that he cannot turn things around again.
Nevertheless, it is wise to still plan for life beyond Brown – and McCarthy would arguably be a very good signing.
He boasts vast amounts of experience, and 90min notes that he is keen to join Celtic. So he should be able to tick many of the same boxes as Brown.
