that Scottish champions Celtic are set to complete the loan signing of AC Milan left-footer Diego Laxalt this summer, as Neil Lennon solves his left-sided problem.
Laxalt, 27, has been identified as the man to finally replace Boli Bolingoli, who left the Hoops after breaking guidelines. He joined Turkish side Istanbul Basaksehir earlier this summer, who will be playing Champions League football this term.
Uruguay international Laxalt adds competition on the left side of the defence, with Greg Taylor having been first choice so far this season. Laxalt also provides cover on the flanks, given he is renowned for playing at left-back or further up.
He has spent the majority of his career in Serie A, playing 170 times in Italy’s top tier. Having clocked up 117 Genoa appearances, Laxalt moved to Milan in 2018 but has played just 35 times since. Now, he is set to join Celtic.
TBR’s view – Laxalt a real coup, killing two birds with one stone
As aforementioned, the versatility of Laxalt sees Celtic finally add competition on the left side of the defence – something that needed to be done. Taylor has impressed, but in the big games, question marks remain.
The Hoops are also lacking out wide – with just James Forrest, Mo Elyounoussi and Mikey Johnston options. Robert Snodgrass is a target but West Ham are playing hardball, so a move to sign Laxalt makes complete sense.
