that Celtic have rejected an offer of £13.5million from AC Milan for defender Kristoffer Ajer – but the Italians are set to return with a bigger offer, and could suggest two players in return.
Ajer, 22, has been strongly linked with a move to Milan for the past few months – as Paolo Maldini looks to sign a central defender for the Serie A giants. Norway international Ajer has emerged as a possible target.
Now, the latest report states that Celtic have rejected a £13.5million offer from Milan for Ajer – but that will not stop Milan. They are willing to spend as much as £22.4million to land the 6ft 5in stopper.
If money is not enough for Celtic, then Milan will also include two of their defenders. The report states Italy Under-21 international Matteo Gabbia could be included, as could six-time Argentina international Mateo Musacchio.
Musacchio, though, may be forced to remain at Milan for the considerable future despite entering the final 12 months of his contract – due to keyhole surgery on his ankle.
TBR’s view – Celtic have got to accept Musacchio deal
If Celtic can arrange a transfer that sees them receive a sizable fee, perhaps still above £10million – and Musacchio – then the Hoops have got themselves a stunning deal. Musacchio is a top, top defender.
An Argentina international, with 249 appearances for Villarreal and 73 for Milan, Musacchio is renowned for being one of Serie A’s best ball-playing defenders. He almost joined Tottenham during Mauricio Pochettino’s reign.
Ajer is a top player but if Celtic receive a player-plus-cash deal involving Musacchio, they would be foolish not to listen.
