The Basque-based club are keen to sign a new number one, and Ryan is very close to joining the side. The keeper has played in Spain before, with the Australian spending two years with Valencia.

Sociedad finished fifth in La Liga last season and also won the Copa Del Rey after beating Basque rivals Athletic Bilbao 1-0 in the final.

As , Celtic boss Postecoglou was keen to bring Ryan to the Hoops this summer on a transfer. The duo worked together during their time with the Australian national team.

The keeper, who earns £35,000-a-week at Brighton , was a target for the Australian manager. However, the Scottish side appear to have missed out on the former Premier League star.

Arsenal were also mooted as a potential destination for Ryan. The former Valencia star spent a six-months with the Gunners last season, making just three appearances for the north London side.

The update to Ryan will be a blow for Celtic, who looked favourites to sign the Australian number one.

The keeper worked well under Postecoglou during their time together for the national time. And now the Hoops must turn their attention to other goalkeeping targets.
