Report: Celtic interested in Motherwell midfielder Liam Donnelly

that Celtic are interested in signing Motherwell midfielder Liam Donnelly as the Northern Ireland man continues to shine in Stephen Robinson’s side this season.

Donnelly, 23, has scored an impressive nine goals from central midfield this season in just 20 Scottish Premiership appearances. The former Fulham academy star has also laid on two assists for the side he joined in the summer of 2018.

What Donnelly does offer is the ability to play in multiple positions. He can play as a deep midfielder, a box-to-box miffielder or even at right-back or centre-back. His form has seen him called up by Northern Ireland, but he is yet to win a cap.

Celtic are set to complete the signing of Ismaila Soro from Israeli side Bnei Yehuda – while Patryk Klimala has made his debut for the club. But it seems Neil Lennon wants another midfielder, and Donnelly is on his shortlist.

TBR’s view – Donnelly could become a Celtic gem under Lennon

Ask most Celtic fans about a Northern Irish central midfielder and most will reply with the current manager in Lennon. Donnelly, also a Northern Irish midfielder, has the perfect mentor in Lennon.

Goals from midfield in a side that have overperformed this season under Robinson, Donnelly can be an excellent signing – an understated one at that. It remains to be seen what fee will be needed to sign Donnelly.
