Report: Celtic are also interested in signing Tottenham defender Japhet Tanganga
on their Transfer Centre (Monday, 09:36AM) that Celtic are battling two Premier League clubs in the race to sign Tottenham Hotspur defender Japhet Tanganga on a potential loan deal before Monday’s deadline.
Tanganga, 21, is struggling to break into Jose Mourinho’s starting XI this season after a string of injuries at the start of the campaign. He broke into the side last season under Mourinho and has since played 18 times for the club’s first team.
on Sunday that West Bromwich Albion want to sign Tanganga and that the player is keen on a loan move – but that he also has interest from Italy and Scotland. Now, the Transfer Centre say Celtic are interested.
But that Celtic face interest from two Premier League clubs – one that is likely to be the Baggies and Sam Allardyce. Celtic are without Christopher Jullien for much of the remaining season, while Shane Duffy has struggled since going north.

TBR’s view – Tanganga would thrive at Celtic
The reason Duffy has struggled at Celtic is down to his lack of speed. During his best years at Brighton under Chris Hughton, the Seagulls played with a low block and little space in behind. It meant Duffy thrived as he did not to run much.
But at Celtic, they dominate possession and the centre-backs sit on the halfway line. That means they are vulnerable to the counter attack and it has seen Duffy caught out. Tanganga has bags of pace, and would thrive where Duffy has failed.
