But once it became clear to them that Allan was a realistic target, the proposed move for Wendel was abandoned.

Everton completed their move for Allan for a transfer fee reported to be worth about £21.7 million (), and from what he has shown so far in Everton colours, there can surely be no regrets over Wendel.

The South American has only played four games but it is crystal clear what a brilliant player he is.

While he is known for being a tough tackler and a brilliant reader of the game, Allan also has superb technical quality.

Wendel may be a fair bit younger at 23, but Allan is in his prime and can make the difference for Everton immediately.
