Report: Burnley and Southampton show interest in Tottenham defender

that both Burnley and Southampton want to sign Tottenham star Japhet Tanganga on loan. Turkish side Galatasaray have also made an offer to get the defender, but Spurs want him to stay in the Premier League. Now, the Englishman has two top-tier English options.

Tanganga, 22, broke into the Tottenham first team little after Jose Mourinho’s arrival at the club. Making his debut under the Portuguese gaffer, Tanganga has since been in and out of the side – with injury hampering his progress. In 18 months, he has played just 24 times.

A loan is needed, even after the sale of Toby Alderweireld. Spurs are expected to bring in Cristian Romero and another defender this summer. Tottenham want to loan Tanganga out to a Premier League side – after an offer from Gala. Both Burnley and Southampton want the Spurs man.

Burnley or Southampton for Tottenham man Tanganga?

The obvious option here is the right one. Both teams play four at the back, and Burnley’s first names on the team sheet are their centre-backs. Tanganga would simply be cover for captain Ben Mee, and England international James Tarkowski. At Southampton, he could start.

The Saints options at centre-back are not as impressive. Jannik Vestergaard is their best, but question marks surround Jack Stephens. A move to Southampton could also help solve a strained relationship which was born out of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s move to North London 12 months ago.
