Report: Brighton, Sheffield United and Aston Villa are all interested in Maupay

According to the , Brighton are hoping to sign Brentford striker Neal Maupay this summer. However, the Seagulls could face competition from Premier League newcomers Aston Villa and Sheffield United.

The report also claims that the Frenchman currently has a price tag of £20 million. The Bees will certainly want to receive the biggest fee they can for the forward. After all, he is a crucial figure at Griffin Park and could not be easily replaced.

It is unsurprising to see top flight outfits showing an interest in Maupay. The 22-year-old was in fine form last season. In 49 appearances, he racked up 28 goals and nine assists. Villa boss Dean Smith certainly knows what a talent Maupay is having taken charge of the forward during his time in the Brentford hotseat.

However, before Smith can secure a reunion with Maupay at Villa Park, Brighton should do all they can to make the striker their own. Graham Potter needs to bring a new goalscorer to the AMEX Stadium this summer.

The club flirted with relegation last season, and cannot afford to be so reliant upon 35-year-old striker Glenn Murray this time around. Maupay would take the pressure off of the veteran attacker. If the Seagulls fail to add a prolific forward to their ranks this summer then they will be set for a very tough term. Their survival could depend upon their ability to get a deal for Maupay over the line.
