Report: Brighton set Glenn Murray demand amid Newcastle, Nottingham Forest interest
Brighton and Hove Albion will demand £500,000 from Premier League clubs for Glenn Murray, but are happy to let the striker go for free if he is going to move into the Championship, that Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest are amongst his admirers.
Murray has been a peripheral figure for the Seagulls this season. He is yet to score in the top flight having only made three starts for Graham Potter’s men. The 36-year-old has made 11 appearances from the bench.
And it appears that he could be on the move this month. that the likes of Newcastle and Forest are monitoring his situation.
Brighton are reportedly willing to let Murray leave for free if he drops down into the second tier. However, a move to the City Ground may still be in doubt.
Sabri Lamouchi would reportedly prefer to sign Murray on loan, but the veteran is hoping to secure an 18-month deal wherever he heads next.
The report suggests that that may open the door for the likes of Newcastle, as well as Crystal Palace who are also keen on the Englishman.
Interestingly, Brighton are set to demand a six-figure fee from any top flight rival who wants Murray this month.
TBR View – Surely Newcastle should take a punt
Murray is hardly a marquee January signing. And handing the striker an 18-month deal does not appear to be ideal given that he is in the twilight of his career.
But with Newcastle lacking options up front, Steve Bruce would be forgiven for wanting to take a gamble on Murray.
He has previously scored goals at the highest level. And Newcastle need new faces as they edge closer to the bottom three. They have not won any of their last four games.
Of course, the Magpies may have more exciting plans up their sleeve. But if they are not planning to spend any significant sums this month, perhaps a move for Murray could prove shrewd.
