Report: Brighton face competition from Mourinho for £15m-rated Olympic talent

Brighton and Hove Albion now face competition from Jose Mourinho’s AS Roma side for Getafe defender Marc Cucurella.

, the three-time Premier League-winning manager is now keen on the Spanish youngster. Cucurella has a release clause of €18m (£15m) and is one of La Liga’s top prospects.

Despite interest from Brighton and now Roma, Cucurella’s future is unlikely to be decided until after the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.

The versatile fullback is part of La Roja’s 18-man squad for the summer competition. And his value could increase further if Cucurella impresses in Japan.

The Seagulls are eager to sign a left wing-back this summer with Solly March only just returning from injury.

The winger tore his meniscus in a 1-0 win over Liverpool in February, with the Eastbourne-born attacker only just returning to training.

At 22-years-old, though, Cucurella is an exciting proposition for Brighton. Moreover, the former FC Barcelona academy graduate has flourished into one of Spain’s best wing-backs with Getafe.

Indeed, with Graham Potter favouring a formation that utilises wing-backs, the youngster could be a great addition this summer.

With Tariq Lamptey likely to return to full fitness ahead of next season, Brighton could have two very exciting and dangerous options out on the flanks should the south coast side activate Cucurella’s release clause.
