Report: Bournemouth prepared to let Fraser leave for free next summer
According to the , Bournemouth are prepared to allow Ryan Fraser to leave the club as a free agent next year, rather than sell him this summer. . However, the Cherries seem determined to hang on to the 25-year-old, for one more season at least.
The south coast club could easily cash in on the nine-cap Scotland international this summer. However, Fraser is a vital member of Eddie Howe’s team, and the manager is clearly reluctant to let him go. It seems that the south coast club would rather keep Fraser at the Vitality Stadium for another year, at the risk of him leaving on a free transfer when his contract expires in the summer of 2020.
This is a bold stance for the club to take. On the one hand, they should be applauded for prioritising footballing success over potential profit. However, to lose Ryan Fraser on a free transfer would be disastrous for a club such as Bournemouth. The Scot is one of their most valuable assets, and would not be easy to replace. Howe must, therefore, consider the consequences very carefully before committing to this course of action.
Fraser’s stock has never been higher. With only one year left on his contract, time is fast running out for the Cherries to capitalise on that. Unpalatable as it may be, selling the winger now may be the smartest move in the long run for Bournemouth. After all, the wide man will be much easier to replace if some transfer funds are made available with which to do so.
