Report: Bolton make late enquiry for Celtic defender Jack Hendry

Bolton Wanderers have made a late effort to sign Jack Hendry on loan from Celtic. , Celtic have received an enquiry from Bolton about Hendry’s availability.

English clubs had until 17:00 to sign new players but deals can be completed after the window shuts – as long as the paperwork is completed. Bolton would have needed to complete any paperwork for a Hendry deal if they wish to sign him.

The Trotters are trying to rebuild their squad after nearly going into administration. Bolton have been taken over and it has been a busy transfer deadline day for them. Keith Hill has signed a number of players and is hoping to add Hendry to the mix.

Celtic see the Scotland international as surplus to requirements. Neil Lennon prefers Christopher Jullien, Jozo Simunovic, Nir Bitton and Kristoffer Ajer in central defence. Therefore, a deal could be possible.

However, the Bhoys have been trying to use Hendry as part of the deal to sign Greg Taylor from Kilmarnock (). This could be Lennon’s preference and Scottish clubs have until midnight to complete deals.

TBR’s view

Celtic should try to offload Hendry before the window shuts – whether that is a loan or a permanent arrangement. With time running out in England, any loan move to Bolton seems unlikely.

However, Kilmarnock want Hendry and Celtic want Taylor. It seems sensible that the 24-year-old is included in a deal for Taylor to drive down the left-back’s price.
