Report: Blackburn want Sunderland’s Jon McLaughlin

Blackburn Rovers are hoping to tempt Sunderland into selling Jon McLaughlin this month, that the goalkeeper is out of contract in the summer.

McLaughlin has been an inspired signing for the Black Cats. And he has found his way back into Phil Parkinson’s plans in recent times.

The 32-year-old actually boasts an incredibly impressive record this term. He has kept clean sheets in his last two games.

Meanwhile, you would have to go back to October to find the last time McLaughlin conceded more than one in a league game.

Nevertheless, it appears that Phil Parkinson may face a battle to keep the goalkeeper.

that Blackburn want to sign the former Hearts man.

It is suggested that Tony Mowbray – who was in charge of Hibernian earlier in his managerial career – is hoping that the Black Cats will accept a low offer.

It remains to be seen what the future holds for the goalkeeper. And there may be some supporters who would not mind a January sale to ensure that he cannot leave for nothing in the summer.

However, given how important McLaughlin has been to the Black Cats, surely Parkinson has to take the risk and keep him for the rest of the season.

Promotion will provide a much bigger prize than what Blackburn will probably put on the table this month.

Sunderland’s hopes of going up will not be dashed should they sell McLaughlin, of course. But replacing him is going to be an incredibly difficult task – particularly if they receive a fee that represents the fact that his contract will soon expire.
