Report: Blackburn reopen talks with Leeds over Barry Douglas

Blackburn Rovers have reopened talks to sign Leeds United defender Barry Douglas, that Tony Mowbray is pushing to sign the left-back permanently.

Douglas looks set to be one of the players who could leave Elland Road before Friday’s deadline. The 31-year-old is yet to feature in the Premier League. He is yet to even make the bench in the top flight this term.

Lancs Live reports that Marcelo Bielsa is prepared to let Douglas leave. And it has been suggested that Watford have held talks over a potential move for the defender.

The report suggests that it had previously appeared that Rovers had cooled their interest. The finances were apparently not to their liking.

However, that Blackburn are now back in discussions with Leeds. And while it is suggested that a loan is looking most likely, it is claimed that Mowbray is keen to sign Douglas on a permanent basis.

TBR View: Leeds agreeing to loan would be intriguing move

As noted by Lancs Live, Douglas is into the final year of his contract. So it will be interesting to see if they are willing to do a loan deal.

That may perhaps hint that Leeds may be looking for his wages – worth £10,000-a-week, – to be covered, as well as a significant loan fee.

On the other hand, Douglas has been a good servant for the Whites – even if the move has perhaps not quite worked out as many had hoped.

So perhaps, the club may be willing to sanction a loan exit to ensure that he does secure a move and can play regularly – even if that means they miss out on a transfer fee in the future.
