Report: Bielsa wants Leeds to keep Hernandez and Casilla; undecided on teammate
Marcelo Bielsa wants Leeds United to hold onto Pablo Hernandez and Kiko Casilla this summer, that he is undecided about one of their teammates.
Leeds fans would have been forgiven for fearing that Hernandez’s time at Elland Road is coming towards its conclusion.
The 36-year-old has struggled for game-time this season. And the Daily Mirror notes that his contract expires at the end of next season.
However, that Bielsa still sees the attacking midfielder as part of his plans. The report claims that he wants Hernandez to stay.
And it is a similar story regarding Bielsa’s stance on keeping Casilla.
The Spaniard has barely featured since serving a ban last season. In fact, his only Premier League appearance came when Illan Meslier was out with illness.
Nevertheless, the Daily Mirror reports that Bielsa values his experience.
One player Bielsa is yet to make a decision on however, is Gaetano Berardi. The Mirror notes that the defender is out of contract in the summer after spending the majority of his season working his way back from a serious injury sustained right at the end of the last campaign.
Berardi earns around £32,000-a-week, . He has featured for the under-23s in recent weeks and been named on the first-team bench by Bielsa.

Much may depend on what the individual players want this summer. Hernandez, for example, would surely be forgiven for wanting to move on given how little he has featured.
But if Leeds can hold onto him, it could be a real boost. He proved in the Championship that he remains an outstanding player in the twilight of his career. And there have been glimpses of what he can do in the top flight.
Leeds could do a lot worse meanwhile, than offer Berardi a new one-year deal. The Whites have had so many injuries at centre-back this year, so he could have a role to play.
Understandably, some may argue that they would be better off putting faith in the likes of Olly Casey and Charlie Cresswell if they do lose several players to injury.
But, like many, Berardi has played the best football of his Leeds career under Bielsa. So it may be worth enquiring as to whether he would be open to staying one more year.
