Report: £7m Arsenal star wanted by two-time European champions

Arsenal midfielder, Matteo Guendouzi, is now wanted by Benfica this summer, according to reports from in Portugal.

Guendouzi is being tipped to seal a permanent move away from North London this summer. He fell out with Mikel Arteta, before spending last season with Hertha Berlin.

The Frenchman had already reportedly agreed terms with Marseille.

However, now claim that Benfica are looking to make a late move and snatch Guendouzi from the under the noses of the French giants.

Guendouzi signed for Arsenal in a back in 2019. The midfielder was immediately tipped as a star of the future, but fell out with Mikel Arteta following some ill-discipline.

Ever since then, there has appeared to be no way back for Guendouzi with the Gunners. A number of clubs have enquired about him this summer already, with Benfica the latest to emerge.

Benfica are very much regarded as a giant of European football. Their history, which includes two European Cups, is a glittering one.

They finished 3rd last season in the Primeira Liga. Sporting Lisbon won the race for the title, with Porto finishing 2nd ahead of Benfica.

Guendouzi could be tempted by Benfica, they’re a giant of football

Regardless of their lack of success in recent years, it can’t be argued Benfica are a huge club. They’ve been hugely successful. Indeed, the likes of Eusebio have graced the hallowed turf.

That has to be appealing for Guendouzi. Sure, a move back to France is also appealing. But Benfica have that rich history and would represent a different challenge for the young midfielder.

For Arsenal, it’s simply a case of getting the best deal. They probably won’t care where Guendouzi goes. It’s all about getting the best outcome.
