Report: Basel remain keen on Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius

Liverpool could part ways with goalkeeper Loris Karius in January, with reports from claiming that Basel are ready to sign him again.

Karius has dropped well down the pecking order at Anfield after a series of blunders hardly endeared him to the Liverpool faithful. The signing of Alisson all but ended his hopes of becoming number one. More recently, Caoimhin Kelleher has pushed Karius further away.

But claim that Basel – after showing interest in the summer – are ready to take Karius off Jurgen Klopp’s hands. A deal fell through this year due to finances. However, a compromise could be reached.

Karius has spent time away from Liverpool already. The stopper has had spells with Besiktas and more recently, Union Berlin.

Jurgen Klopp made Karius just his third ever signing at Liverpool back in the summer of 2016. At the time, the .

Despite his poor form, he has maintained backing from Klopp. Prior to joining Besiktas in 2018, the his goalkeeper as ‘fantastic’.

TBR’s View: Time up for Karius at Liverpool

It just has to be. Doesn’t it? Karius has just not hit the heights that were expected of him and in fairness, he’s never going to dislodge Alisson.

The time really, then, is now for him to move on. He needs a club who will want him as number one. Only with regular football under his belt will he ever really prove himself.

A cheap signing really, the Reds aren’t losing out on much. For Karius’ sake, though, he simply has to get on his bike and find a new home.

He’s got time on his side and a few good seasons can change everyone’s thinking about him. He’s had five years at Anfield, and will have learnt plenty.
