Report: Barcelona could sign Liverpool star Gini Wijnaldum for just £15 million
Barcelona could reportedly land Liverpool midfielder Gini Wijnaldum for as little as £15 million.
, Reds officials are ‘hopeful’ of reaching an agreement with Barca knowing the Dutch international can leave the club for free next year.
Wijnaldum recently emerged as a target for the Catalan giants, who are now managed by Ronald Koeman, who knows the qualities of the 29-year-old particularly well after managing the Netherlands.
Wijnaldum is a highly popular figure at Anfield after playing a crucial role in Liverpool’s recent silverware haul that has included the Champions League trophy and the Premier League title.
It is thought Liverpool’s desire to sanction Wijnaldum’s exit is also to aid their pursuit of Thiago Alcantara, who has been heavily linked to the Reds.
TBR’s View – The time is right to sell
There doesn’t appear to be any willingness from Wijnaldum to extend at Anfield, so the club are right to be trying to facilitate his exit.
The £75,000-a-week star () has done a lot for the club, but the situation suggests it is the right time to sell, especially with Thiago available and keen to sign.
Thiago would be more of a deep-lying playmaker than Wijnaldum, but Jurgen Klopp does have the likes of Curtis Jones, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Takumi Minamino as more direct replacements.
