Report: At a bargain £1.7m price tag, Newcastle have to consider player linked with Tottenham
Napoli have reportedly told interested parties that they will need to part with a nominal £1.7million to sign Fernando Llorente, while the ex-Spurs striker has been linked with a return to Tottenham – but do Newcastle need to consider the Spaniard?
that Napoli will consider offers of around £1.7million for 34-year-old striker Llorente, despite the player joining Napoli in the summer. He was signed on a free by the Serie A side, after his Tottenham release.
Since moving to Napoli, Llorente has been used as a bit-part striker – scoring only four goals in 21 league and cup outings. Despite that lack of form, he could be on his way back to the Premier League over the course of the next fortnight.
Indeed, Spurs have been offered the chance to re-sign 2010 World Cup winner Llorente. He scored 13 goals in 66 appearances for the north Londoners, and was crucial in their run to the Champions League final last season.
However, the chances of Spurs going back on their original decision to release Llorente and re-sign him six months later seem slim. Llorente is available and for a bargain price, so surely that should convince Newcastle into a move.
Joelinton netted just his second goal for Newcastle this week in the FA Cup against Rochdale, despite costing The Toon an enormous £40million. Andy Carroll is yet to score following his return, while Dwight Gayle is injured for six weeks.
Newcastle desperately need to bring in a new striker over the next fortnight and have been linked with a handful of forwards, including Karl-Toko Ekambi, Moussa Dembele, Krzysztof Piatek, Olivier Giroud and plenty more.
Given Llorente’s Premier League experience with Swansea and Newcastle, his bargain price tag of just £1.7million and Newcastle’s need for a new striker – surely The Toon making a move for veteran Llorente makes sense?
