Report: ‘Astonishing’ Premier League winner could join Tottenham
Tottenham Hotspur may be offered the chance to sign Georginio Wijnaldum in a swap deal as they continue talks with Paris Saint-Germain over Tanguy Ndombele, .
Ndombele is keen to join PSG this month. The Daily Mail notes that he is training alone after falling out of favour under Antonio Conte.
Mauricio Pochettino is keen to bolster his midfield ranks with Wijnaldum struggling to impress since his summer switch from Liverpool. And with that, a loan move for Ndombele is in the works.
Interestingly, it may be Tottenham who offer Wijnaldum a route back to the Premier League. that the Dutchman could be involved in the talks after a swap involving Leandro Paredes was snubbed.
Wijnaldum has not hit the heights since moving to the French capital. He has only scored one goal in Ligue 1.
Wijnaldum more likely to make impact at Tottenham than Ndombele
It remains to be seen what Tottenham make of the offer. But there is no question that the 31-year-old has an outstanding record in the Premier League.
He was labelled an ‘‘ person by Jurgen Klopp when he departed Anfield in the summer. He made over 200 top-flight appearances in England for Newcastle and the Reds.
Wijnaldum also helped Liverpool win the Premier League title and Champions League. His form has also caught the eye of Conte in the past.
It was reported in 2020 that the Italian wanted the midfielder at Inter Milan. So he is clearly a player that he admires.
Tottenham’s priority needs to be offloading Ndombele this month. And if a swap deal ensures that that happens, Spurs should be open to the idea.
Of course, they will be wary of taking an out-of-form player in return. Wijnaldum will not come cheap – even on loan.
But he was superb in the Premier League just a few months ago. And if Conte was asked which player is more likely to make a positive impact in the coming months, surely he would back Wijnaldum ahead of Ndombele.
