Aston Villa tell Arsenal they want £40m for Douglas Luiz
claimed this afternoon that Arsenal have tabled a £20 million bid to sign Luiz, who has entered the final year of his contract.
The Gunners are really short of options in midfield at the moment with Thomas Partey, Mohamed Elneny and Oleksandr Zinchenko all injured.
Luiz seems like Arsenal’s main target now, but Villa are not making it easy.
The report claims that Steven Gerrard’s side are demanding a fee in the region of £40 million to sell their star midfielder. That’s twice as much as what Arsenal have offered, which could complicate things.
The positive for the Gunners is that , and if he really pushes for a move in the next few hours, Villa could be forced to bring down their asking price.

TBR View:
Aston Villa are being really smart here. They know for a fact that Arsenal simply have to sign a new midfielder before tonight’s deadline due to their injury issues.
£20 million for a player who has less than 10 months on his contract is arguably a reasonable price, but the Villans seem to have driven it up with the hope that the Gunners will agree to overpay because of how desperate they are.
There are just a few hours left in the transfer window now, and Arsenal have to hurry.
If they aren’t willing to meet Villa’s price and if the Villans are not prepared to budge, the Gunners will have to look at different options before it’s too late.
