Report: Aston Villa staff think they’ve signed an absolute bargain this summer, really proud of themselves

The Brazilian defender joined Steven Gerrard’s side for £26m this summer, and went straight into the starting line-up for their opening day defeat to Bournemouth.

He started Saturday’s disappointing defeat alongside Esri Konsa, with former club captain Tyrone Mings an unused substitute.

Both of Bournemouth’s goals on Saturday came as a result of crosses into the box not being dealt with, and although Carlos wasn’t directly responsible in either situation, these are scenarios centre-backs have to deal with.
