Report: Aston Villa now interested in signing ‘unbelievable’ player, who actually taught Van Dijk how to defend
Aston Villa are interested in signing Belgium international Jason Denayer, after Diego Carlos picked up a long-term injury.
Diego Carlos was brought in at the start of the transfer window, and Steven Gerrard and his staff believed they’d signed an absolute bargain.

Already club vice-captain, the loss of Carlos is a huge blow to Gerrard, and leaves him with four senior centre-backs, with Kortney Hause also expected to leave the club.
This would leave Villa looking very short at the back, and a move for free agent Denayer could solve that issue.
Aston Villa are interested in Denayer
The 27-year-old Denayer is at the peak of his ability right now, and chose to leave Lyon when his contract expired instead of signing a new deal with the Ligue 1 side.
The Belgium international, , has plenty of pedigree.
wasn’t able to break into the Manchester City first team after coming through their academy, but has played in several Champions League campaigns and earned 35 caps for Belgium.

A very capable ball playing centre-back, like Diego Carlos he’s also normally deployed on the left-hand side of a central defensive partnership despite being right-footed.
He’s also a goal threat, and scored three times in his 12 league appearances last season.
With no transfer fee to negotiate, Villa would just need to offer Denayer an acceptable contract to make a deal happen.
Denayer isn’t the only option that Gerrard is reportedly considering, with Duje Caleta-Car and Rob Holding both also being linked with a move to Villa Park.
