Report: Aston Villa make initial contact with Paulo Fonseca
Aston Villa have made informal contact with Paulo Fonseca as they seemingly consider the future of manager Dean Smith, .
Dean Smith in trouble?
No team in the Premier League has performed as badly over the last four games as the Villans.

They have lost all of those fixtures, and now sit three points above the relegation zone.
The pressure looks to be building on Smith. Crucially, they face Southampton on Friday night. The Saints are level on points with Villa.
that the Villa hierarchy remain adamant that Smith has their support. However, they also note that sources believe that he is on borrowed time.

And with that, initial contact with Fonseca’s representatives has been made. It is noted that he has been linked with the post in the past.
He has also held talks with Tottenham and been in contention for the Newcastle gig this season.
Fonseca links likely to divide Aston Villa fans
It does appear to be a massive game for Smith this week. Defeat opens the door for Villa to spend the international break in the bottom three in the Premier League.
That period of time would potentially be the ideal opportunity to find a replacement if they lost faith in the current boss.
However, links with Fonseca may divide opinion. He is potentially not a marquee name in this country having never worked in the Premier League.
The large majority of his managerial career to date has been spent in Portugal. He did well meanwhile, while in Ukraine with Shakhtar Donetsk.
His spell with Roma was mixed. And with that, there may be plenty who have their doubts about him.
Getting rid of Smith and replacing him with Fonseca would certainly be a big call.
