Report: Aston Villa interested in Chelsea forward Michy Batshuayi

Aston Villa are reportedly interested in signing Chelsea attacker Michy Batshuayi.

, Villa want to improve their forward line in the January transfer window and have the 26-year-old on their radar.

It is understood that Dean Smith’s side are keen on a loan swoop for the Belgium international and hope to include a purchase option too.

But the report details that it’s unclear on if Premier League rivals Chelsea would be willing to offload him.

Villa have summer signing Wesley Moraes as their first-choice striker, but he suffered an injury in the win over Burnley on New Year’s Day and they are waiting to see the extent of the knee problem.

The Midlands giants already look short of serious option in attack and they will be in a real problem if they lose Wesley too.

Batshuayi is someone that has proven himself as a decent goalscorer in his career so far and has tested himself in England, Belgium, Germany, France and Spain.

The centre-forward is currently playing a back-up role to Tammy Abraham at Stamford Bridge and is doing a decent job.

He’s scored five goals in 18 senior games across all competitions this season for Chelsea, but only started in two of them.

The £90,000-a-week attacker () scored six times in 13 games for Crystal Palace when joining them for the second half of last season.

TBR’s View:

Villa are only a point above the relegation zone despite their recent win, so it’s a huge month for the club to try bring in a couple of quality signings to keep them in the top-flight.

Batshuayi definitely fits the profile of someone that could make a decent impact and he would be an upgrade to spearhead the attack, but whether Chelsea would actually let him go remains unclear.

He’s a natural finisher that comes alive in the box and could inject a predatory touch in front of goal if he did join.
