They have been linked with plenty of forwards over the last few months. And ahead of the arrivals of both Watkins and Traore, that they were one of the sides interested in Brewster.

Some may have wondered whether the moves they have completed would mark the end of their pursuit of Brewster. However, it appears that Villa remain runners in the race to secure the youngster’s signature.

that Villa still want Brewster. It is noted that Liverpool want £25 million plus a buy-back clause agreed for the 20-year-old – who is also being tracked by Sheffield United and Crystal Palace.

And it seems that Brewster may not be the only striker Villa and the Blades may battle over.

The Mail also suggests that both clubs have shown interest in Sturridge. The 31-year-old is a free agent after leaving Trabzonspor.

It is not entirely clear whether Villa remain in the hunt for Sturridge. But as they are still keen on Brewster, it would perhaps not be a huge surprise if Sturridge was also on their list for the time-being.

TBR View: Brewster a much more exciting target, but Sturridge cannot be ruled out for teams looking for potential bargain

A move for Sturridge will almost definitely divide supporters wherever he goes. It is a long time since he reached double figures for league goals in a single campaign.

But he could arguably be worth a gamble for teams with little money still to spend.

However, if there is still plenty left for Villa, Brewster certainly seems the more exciting target. The youngster was superb on loan in the Championship last term.

He does lack top flight experience. And a potential buy-back clause will always be in the back of a club’s mind if he impresses.

But there is surely no question that signing Brewster will capture the imagination a lot more than bringing Sturridge in will.
