Report: Aston Villa have Said Benrahma bid rejected by Brentford

Dean Smith is eyeing a raid on his former club for Said Benrahma. But , Brentford have rejected a bid for the impressive winger.

Brentford have made it clear that Aston Villa will need to lodge a sizeable offer to prise Benrahma away from Griffin Park this summer.

The 23-year-old was brought to England by Smith last summer. And he penned a four-year deal with an option for an extra 12 months.

It has been a fruitful first season in England for Benrahma. In 45 games, he has scored 11 goals and provided 17 assists. That includes 10 goals in 38 Championship matches.

The Algeria international has caught the eye with his performances from either flank or as a number 10. Unsurprisingly, Smith wants to reunite with him at Aston Villa.

After winning promotion to the Premier League, Smith is looking to bring in reinforcements in attack. Benrahma is the latest target linked with Villa.

Aston Villa have already signed Jota and Anwar El Ghazi. Benrahma could be the third winger through the door at Villa Park but a big offer will be required.

TBR’s view

With three years remaining on his Bees contract, Aston Villa might be priced out of this deal. But at the right price, this could be a shrewd piece of business.

Benrahma is an exciting talent and he adjusted to life in England quickly. With age on his side, he is going to get better next season and he has shown signs that he can become a Premier League player.

Aston Villa now have Jota, El Ghazi and Andre Green on the wings. One more player is required and Benrahma could add excitement and strength in depth to this department.
