that Hasenhuttl and Gerrard are two of the names who feature high on their wishlist.

Meanwhile, sporting director Johan Lange is an admirer of Thomas Frank and Kasper Hjulmand. Paulo Fonseca is also a target for the Villans.

Hasenhuttl and Gerrard may divide Aston Villa supporters

It will probably come as little surprise to Southampton fans that Hasenhuttl is wanted by Villa.

The Villans signed Danny Ings from the Saints in the summer. Meanwhile, they were also linked with and .

Gerrard meanwhile, led Rangers to the Scottish Premiership title last season.

The 41-year-old did a remarkable job to bring the title back to Ibrox. But of course, there is always a question mark from elsewhere over how impressive an achievement it is to guide either Rangers or Celtic to the league crown.

Hasenhuttl’s stock has fallen over the last year. He took Southampton top of the table at one stage last term. But obviously, he is synonymous with a couple of particularly heavy defeats.

And the Saints have not hit anything like those heights this season. However, it is difficult to know how much of that is down to the situation surrounding the ownership of the club.

It will also be fascinating to see how the likes of Hasenhuttl or Gerrard should Villa make a move.
