Report: Aston Villa ‘crazy’ about five-trophy manager, they’re now trying to convince him to join

Aston Villa are looking for Steven Gerrard’s replacement after sacking him on Thursday night.

The 42-year-old’s Villans tenure came to an end just after Villa’s 3-0 Premier League loss at Fulham.

Villa have been linked with a number of names in the past few days, but one seems to be head and shoulders above the rest.

Ruben Amorim, Sporting CP’s head coach, appears to be the Villans’ top managerial target.

And a report from Portugal has outlined how eager Villa are to land the 37-year-old.

A Bola – via – claim the Villa Park outfit will ‘insist’ on a deal for Amorim.

This is despite the Villans being knocked back on their first attempt.

Villa are apparently trying to convince Amorim to accept a new challenge.

They’ve also reportedly made it clear they are not put off by his €30m (£26m) release clause.

Villa are ‘crazy’ about Amorim and see him as ‘one of the best solutions’ to lead the team.

Therefore, they will ‘insist’ on trying to land him.

Villa reportedly see Amorim as a young, ambitious coach with a bright future and want part of that to be at Villa Park.

However, the manager himself may need some more convincing.

Amorim has already publicly cooled the rumours and isn’t willing to give up on Sporting.

He apparently wants to finish the season and then assess his options.

If this were the case, Villa would obviously have to look elsewhere.

Nonetheless, Villa ‘won’t give up’ on their attempt to get the coach.
