Report: Aston Villa could complete Bertrand Traore deal on Wednesday

that Aston Villa could complete the signing of Lyon winger Bertrand Traore on Wednesday after he completed a medical in Copenhagen on Monday afternoon.

Traore, 25, looks set to complete a £19million move to Villa – – after falling down the pecking order at Lyon. In the Ligue 1 side’s first two league games of the season, Traore has remained an unused substitute.

The former Chelsea attacker is more than capable of scoring at the top level, though. During the 2017-18 season, Burkina Faso international Traore scored an impressive 18 goals in 43 games from out wide – and laid on seven assists.

Villa will be hoping he can recreate that form at next term and push them away from the drop zone. The report claims he passed a medical on Monday, returned to Lyon on Tuesday to sort work permit issues and could sign for Villa on Wednesday.

TBR’s view – Are Villa overpaying for Traore?

Perhaps slightly. Though the ex-Ajax man has proved he can hack it at the top level, last season he scored just four goals in 35 league and cup outings for Rudi Garcia’s side. Though capable of magic, consistency is an issue.

If he is given the patience, trust and confidence to shine at Villa from the starting line-up, he could rediscover that form. But at £19million, it is an expensive risk for Dean Smith’s side to take.
