Aston Villa may be willing to let Anwar El Ghazi leave Villa Park this summer if Dean Smith can add another wide player to his ranks,
The 25-year-old arrived from Ajax for last summer, making a loan from the 2018/19 campaign permanent after success in the Play-Off Final.
He scored seven goals and registered six assists during the promotion-winning season, with his most important goal coming in the showpiece final against Derby County.
Last season he scored six times and claimed seven assists, proving capable of playing on either side of Villa’s attack.
It looks as though Smith would be open to the idea of selling the Dutchman, however, but only if he can sign a wide player himself.
Werder Bremen winger Milot Rashica has been linked with a move to the Villans and perhaps that deal could hinge on whether or not El Ghazi sticks around.
Villa look to have changed tact in the transfer market this summer after narrowly avoiding relegation last season.
Smith targeted the European market during the summer of 2019 and he can’t have been happy with the vast majority of his business.
With that in mind, it would seem he has pursued young, British talent this time around, with Ollie Watkins and Matty Cash arriving from Brentford and Nottingham Forest respectively.
Upgrade
El Ghazi could prove to be a victim of Smith’s squad cull and that would represent a blow for the player.
It is fair to suggest that his form was inconsistent last season, however, and Villa obviously feel they can attract better ahead of their second season in the top-flight.
At 25, El Ghazi shouldn’t be short of suitors and plenty of European clubs would probably jump at the chance to sign him.
