He has played a key role for Arsenal in recent weeks. Lacazette has worn the armband since Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was stripped of the captaincy. And the 30-year-old is one of only two natural strikers available to Mikel Arteta.

He has not been prolific this season. But he has impressed alongside some of the club’s best young players. Jamie Carragher labelled him ‘outstanding‘ after one display earlier this term.

But Arsenal face a dilemma over his future. Certainly, Paul Merson has suggested that the Gunners should let him go no matter how well he plays in the remaining months of the season.

Lyon have already spelled out plans to make a move. But it would appear that another Premier League side is plotting a bid of their own.

, Aston Villa also want Lacazette. Meanwhile, the striker has informed his admirers that he wants £97,500-a-week at his next club.

Arsenal will hope Lacazette moves elsewhere amid Aston Villa interest

It will be fascinating to see if Aston Villa do indeed make a move for Lacazette. It would surprise many if Steven Gerrard was keen on the Arsenal man.

In fairness, it does appear that the Villans could potentially do with another striker. They have Danny Ings and Ollie Watkins. And they have young players such as Cameron Archer. But they would surely not shut the door on a good deal this coming summer.

Lacazette has a reasonable record in the Premier League. And Villa could do a lot worse should they target a new striker.

Arsenal will surely hope he heads elsewhere. It will not be a good look if he thrives with a top-flight rival, particularly with Villa setting their sights on joining some of the heavyweights in the coming years.
