Report: Ashley Williams on verge of joining Bristol City after Everton exit
Ashley Williams has moved one step closer to finding a new club after his Everton release. , Williams is set to join Bristol City on a free transfer.
Williams is expected to sign an initial one-year deal with Bristol City. He will join Lee Johnson’s side as they push for promotion from the Championship. Johnson has moved to add Williams to his squad to bring more experience to their ranks.
The 34-year-old has been without a club since his Everton contract expired. He spent last season on loan at Stoke City after a miserable campaign at Goodison Park, where he struggled for form.
In three years with the Toffees, Williams played 73 games for the club. Last season, he played 37 times for Stoke, taking his career tally to nearly 700 senior appearances. Most of these came at Swansea City, where he played over 350 times, helping the Welsh side to reach the Premier League after joining them in the third tier.

Williams is also the captain of Wales. But after being left out of their upcoming international squad, he has stepped up his search for a new club. It looks like Bristol City will be Williams’ next home.
TBR’s view
This is potentially a great move for the veteran defender. If he can break into the Bristol City side, he will be playing regular football for a team pushing for promotion to the Premier League.
Williams will have to compete with Bailey Wright, Nathan Baker and Tomas Kalas for starts. But Championship football will boost his chances of adding to his 86 Wales caps.
