Report: AS Roma considering offer for Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius

that Liverpool’s 2017-18 Champions League semi-final opponents AS Roma are considering whether to make a bid for Reds goalkeeper Loris Karius this summer.

Karius, 25, is unlikely to play for Liverpool again after two enormous blunders in the Champions League final defeat to Real Madrid last year, which saw Karim Benzema and Gareth Bale score for the Galacticos.

Liverpool signed Alisson from AS Roma last summer and kept Simon Mignolet, loaning Karius to Besiktas for two years. In Turkey, Karius also struggled, conceding 49 goals in 35 games – keeping just six clean sheets.

Robin Olsen is currently Roma’s number one but is expected to leave the club this summer, and it is believed Roma have identified Karius and ex-Tottenham Hotspur loanee Pau Lopez as summer options.

Karius, who joined Liverpool for £4.75million (), has excellent stats from his time at Liverpool – conceding just 47 goals in 49 games and keeping 22 clean sheets. He has a contract until 2021.

It is a somewhat surprising move, though, given the size of Roma and the disappointing recent form of Karius.

TBR’s view

Karius has proven in the Premier League that he is certainly an accomplished goalkeeper, but after receiving enormous criticism from Liverpool fans after the 3-1 defeat in the final, it is likely he will never play for the Reds again.

It remains to be seen how much Roma would have to pay for Karius, but it is likely to be more than the £4.75million Liverpool paid Mainz for.
