Report: Arsenal will not extend midfielder’s contract, old side ready to match his current wages
Besiktas are keen on luring Mo Elneny back to the Turkish Super Lig from Arsenal this summer. The midfielder is in the final 12 months of his Arsenal contract, and the report claims he will not renew with the Gunners. Besiktas want him back at Vodafone Park.
Elneny, 29, spent the 2018-19 season on loan at Besiktas and despite being sent off on his debut for the Turkish side �he impressed. The Egyptian midfielder, who cost Arsenal £7million () in 2016, clocked up 36 appearances for Besiktas. He has since returned to Arsenal.
But the report states that his contract ends next summer and Arsenal are unwilling to extend. Besiktas are keen to bring him back to Turkey, as they embark on a Champions League campaign having won the 2020-21 Super Lig. They are ready to match his £52,500-a-week wages ().
Elneny to Besiktas: Leaving Arsenal right for his career
Realistically, Elneny is going to struggle to get game time this season. The new signing of Albert Lokonga, and potentially Martin Odegaard, twinned with the decision to keep Granit Xhaka �sees Elneny some way down the pecking order. He is also set to play at AFCON in January 2022.
Elneny needs to join a club in the next couple of weeks. It is a move that suits all. Elneny can go somewhere he gets game time, Arsenal can bring in a small-ish fee for his signature. If the club in question is Besiktas, then they know the player they are getting. He will not need time to adapt.
