Report: Arteta ready to let £10m player leave, Arsenal are already closing in on his replacement

Arsenal are ready to let Bernd Leno link up with Newcastle United as soon as they source a replacement, according to .

Earlier this week, reported that the Magpies had been in talks with the Gunners over their second-choice goalkeeper.

The purported deal to take Leno from Arsenal to Newcastle would be an initial loan with obligation to buy if they retain their Premier League status.

Now, The Sun has claimed that, with the Gunners in talks over Matt Turner, they’ll let Leno go to Newcastle if they land the United States international.

Arsenal have already opened negotiations with New England Revolution for the 27-year-old, claimed the report.

Turner was recently voted the MLS goalkeeper of the year. He has been vying with Manchester City’s Zack Steffen for the USMNT gloves.

The Gunners are apparently confident they can clinch a deal in the region of £5million for Turner.

Meanwhile, Leno reportedly fears that his lack of first-team action could cost him his place in Germany’s World Cup squad.

The 29-year-old – who The Sun claims has a £10million price tag – has been first-choice for most of his time in north London.

Leno has clocked up 124 appearances for Arsenal, winning an FA Cup and a Community Shield along the way.

However, Leno struggled at the start of this season.

Mikel Arteta subsequently gave Aaron Ramsdale a chance in Leno’s place and has since cemented his place in the XI.

Meanwhile, Newcastle number of Martin Dubravka is currently carrying a toe injury.

Magpies boss Eddie Howe was reportedly considering bringing in a new goalkeeper ahead of the January transfer window.
