Report: Arsenal told 24-year-old will cost £38million, Mourinho lurking

that Lyon midfielder Bruno Guimaraes will cost interested parties as much as £38million in the January transfer window. Arsenal are said to be doing battle with Jose Mourinho’s Roma.

Bruno, 24, has been a sensational for Lyon in the two years he has spent at the Groupama Stadium. The French side spent around £17million to bring him to France, from Brazilian side Atletico Paranense in January 2020.

Of course, Brazilian clubs prefer to sell in the winter window given their season finishes in December. In the two years he has spent at Lyon, Bruno has clocked up 68 appearances – establishing himself as one of the best in Ligue 1.

But his form has not gone unnoticed. Indeed, he has been rewarded by his country – with three caps, the first of which came in November 2020. Arsenal are keen – but will have to pay a fee close to Mesut Ozil’s £42million () fee.

Globo state that Lyon want more than double the initial outlay they paid to sign Bruno. They want £38million, with Mourinho keen – though the ex-Spurs and Chelsea boss is expected to sign Ainsley Maitland-Niles.

£38million for Bruno: Do Arsenal move, as Roma close in on AMN?

Arsenal are also interested, with first reports of interest in Bruno emerging in the summer. that the Gunners and Edu still have Bruno on their list. Edu is seemingly keen on signing Brazilian players.

£38million is a hefty amount of cash for a player that has only played 152 games at club level – and only in Brazil and France. But he is the right age, and the Gunners do need a midfielder. Between £25million and £30million, is fair.
