Report: Arsenal to sell player who Cesc Fabregas tipped for a ‘big future’ for less than £13m

Arsenal midfielder Matteo Guendouzi is reportedly in line to leave the Emirates Stadium this summer.

The 22-year-old Gunners ace spent last season with Hertha Berlin after falling out of favour with Mikel Arteta.

Guendouzi joined the Gunners in 2018 from Lorient for a reported £7million fee, and he looked like a top prospect.

He has made 82 appearances for Arsenal, but Arteta froze him out in wake of an incident against Brighton last summer.

Guendouzi grabbed Seagulls striker Neal Maupay by the throat towards the end of the Gunners’ Premier League defeat at the Amex Stadium.

That incident was apparently the last straw for Arteta, culminating in the player training alone and eventually leaving on loan.

According to , Guendouzi is now closing in on a move to French outfit Marseille.

The France Under-21 ace has apparently reached agreement with Marseille, who in turn remain in negotiations with Arsenal.

The French outlet also claims that a transfer fee of “under €15m is expected” (around £13m).

What are Arsenal playing at?

Guendouzi is a top prospect who’s worthy of playing in the top flight, and could well go on to have a great career.

Even if Arteta doesn’t see eye to eye with Guendouzi, selling him for such a low amount would scream out ‘banter club’.

Cesc Fabregas himself predicted two years ago that the Frenchman had a “big future ahead of him”.

The way things are going, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Guendouzi leave for peanuts and become a top, top player elsewhere.
