Report: Arsenal to reignite interest in Umtiti as transfer deadline looms

Arsenal will supposedly turn their attention to Barcelona defender Samuel Umtiti, as the transfer deadline creeps closer ().

The Gunners are having trouble signing a central defender, with a number of names having been bandied about over the past few days.

Daniele Rugani of Juventus, RB Leipzig’s Dayot Upamecano and, amazingly, David Luiz of Chelsea have all been linked with moves to the Emirates.

It is expected Upamecano will prove to be simply too expensive for Arsenal, and the Blues selling to the Gunners whilst under a transfer ban would be remarkable.

Perhaps Rugani is the most likely transfer of the three, but negotiations could be tricky with so little time left in the window.

The Sun are now claiming the Gunners could move for World Cup winner Umtiti, who was linked with a Arsenal earlier in the summer.

TBR’s view

Apparently it would have to be a loan deal, but that would suit Arsenal perfectly.

Umtiti is a brilliant ball-playing centre-half who would improve a lot of teams around Europe.

The player has been frustratingly susceptible to injury in recent times and so would be a risk, which is why a loan would suit.

That and the fact that Arsenal likely wouldn’t be able to afford him.

With the clock ticking, it makes sense for Arsenal to remain open to signing the Frenchman.
