Report: Arsenal to delay payment for exit-bound 23-year-old, never featured under Arteta
Stuttgart are set to extend the loan spell of Arsenal defender Konstantinos Mavropanos for a second season, according to .
The Bundesliga outfit hope to keep Mavropanos at the Mercedes-Benz Arena after the Greek centre-half impressed last term. He made in all competitions under Pellegrino Matarazzo and helped to a ninth-place result.
Mavropanos will now return to Stuttgart on loan for the 2021/22 season with a view to a permanent switch next summer. Arsenal are willing to delay payment for 12-months and would receive around €7m (£6m) for the 23-year-old.
Arsenal valued Mavropanos at closer to €2.5m (£2m) last summer but his efforts at Stuttgart saw his value rise steadily. Other top clubs and Bundesliga outfits also showed an interest in signing the international this year.
But Mavropanos chose to stay with Die Roten as he feels at home at the Mercedes-Benz Arena. He also believes the Baden-Wurttemberg side will present him with good opportunities to continue his development.
It had been expected that Arsenal defender Mavropanos would secure a permanent move to Stuttgart this summer. reported last week that the Gunners were keen to end negotiations over a £7m deal in the coming days.
Die Roten had pushed to keep Mavropanos in the Bundesliga as Sporting Director Sven Mislintat is keen on the move. Mislintat was also the man responsible for the centre-half joining Arsenal from PAS Giannina in 2018.
