Report: Arsenal prepared to battle Inter Milan to sign £8.7m-a-year ace

Arsenal are facing competition from Inter Milan in the race to sign Real Madrid striker, Luka Jovic, but the Gunners are prepared to battle all the way for the forward.

That’s according to , who claim that Arsenal won’t let Inter’s reported interest in Jovic put them off making their own move. Italian outlet claim that Jovic is a target for Inter as well.

However, both clubs could end up forking out quite the amount in wages should they move for Jovic. reported that when he signed for Madrid in 2019, he penned a long-term deal worth around £8.7m a season.

Arsenal were first linked with the Serbian just a few weeks back. Jovic, 23, fired in 27 goals for Frankfurt before Madrid signed him. However, since then, he’s endured a miserable time of things, scoring for the Spanish side.

But his form at Frankfurt in that first spell seems to have convinced some, including Arsenal, that there is a talent there to be unlocked.

Arsenal, then, could well launch their bid in the summer if the likes of Lacazette and Nketiah find themselves out the door.

TBR’s View: Jovic to Arsenal would be a big risk as things stand

The wages he is on make this deal already a tough one to swallow. Jovic would need to take a pay cut to ensure Arsenal aren’t getting completely ripped off.

Second, his form is a worry. Even in a loan spell back in Germany, Jovic failed to fire and he looks a player short of any sort of confidence.

The good thing is he is only 23. He’s young enough to bounce back, but needs a big few seasons to get back his reputation.
