Report: £8.7m-a-year Arsenal target wants out of Real Madrid; Ancelotti won’t stand in his way

Reported Arsenal target, Luka Jovic, is apparently desperate to leave Real Madrid in January as his situation at the club continues to run stale.

Jovic has endured a torrid time of things in Spain. Ever since signing for Madrid in a deal, the Serbian striker has struggled for goals and minutes at the Bernabeu.

Reports just last month had claimed Arsenal were looking into bringing Jovic in during January. Any move would need a big outlay in terms of wages, however. Jovic is to earn around the £8.7m-a-year mark at Real Madrid.

And according to this weekend, Jovic is ‘seriously considering’ pushing for an exit in January. Crucially, Jovic is also said to be open to a permanent move.

Any Arsenal move for Jovic now, though, could be unlikely. That’s because reports on Friday have claimed it is in fact his Serbian teammate, Dusan Vlahovic, who the Gunners want.

Jovic, then, might well have to look away from the Premier League to get his move away from Madrid.

TBR’s View: Jovic needs to kickstart his career somehow

What a shame. Jovic went to Madrid full of confidence and like so many, it just hasn’t worked out at one of the world’s biggest clubs.

But, this is still a striker with ability and potential. He fired them in for Frankfurt before moving to Madrid. He also has for Serbia, which is not to be sniffed at.

If Arsenal don’t manage to do the deal for Vlahovic, then Luka Jovic does present a decent option. At 23, there is time for him to re-settle and really kick on, and Mikel Arteta is doing well with younger players.

Ultimately, it comes down to how well Jovic wants to do. The hard work will need to start when he next moves or he risks sinking without a trace.
