Report: Arsenal target Jerome Boateng will not leave Bayern Munich this month

Arsenal target Jerome Boateng has been told that he cannot leave Bayern Munich this month because the German club’s squad is too small.

, as reported by , has claimed that the German international has been told that any move away from the club will not be permitted. This is because there are simply not enough players to grant any first-team exits until at least the summer.

had reported that Mikel Arteta was keen on bringing in the 31-year-old on loan for the remainder of the season to bolster his leaky defence. It now seems that the move will not be completed before Friday’s deadline and if they Gunners want him, they will have to wait until the summer.

Boateng has made 11 appearances in the Bundesliga this season, starting over half of the German champions league games. He is still needed in Munich but could have made a real difference to the Arsenal backline.

Despite not being the most mobile centre-back, the experienced defender would certainly have been an upgrade on Shkodran Mustafi. His mistakes are costing Arsenal points more often than one player should be and something needs to be done.

If Boateng does stay at Bayern, Arteta must re-focus onto another defensive target. If the Gunners are to push for any sort of European qualification place this season, they will need to sure up what is an extremely unreliable defence.
