Report: Arsenal set to sell out-on-loan midfielder permanently, £13m fee

Arsenal are set to sanction the £13million sale of Lucas Torreira – with Fiorentina keen to turn his loan into a permanent deal.

Torreira, 25, has slowly been rebuilding his form and confidence at Fiorentina – out on loan. He is starting to improve that form with La Viola.

Having been shipped out on loan last season to Atletico Madrid, but warming the bench – he returned to Arsenal in the summer.

The Uruguay international is said to have wanted a move closer to his family, and he ended up back in Serie A. Now, he is getting back to his best.

Torreira has clocked up nine outings for La Viola, and started seven of his side’s 11 Serie A games. Now, a permanent deal is expected to happen.

The report from CalcioMercato states that the £13million clause in Torreira’s loan is likely to be activated – after talks held on Wednesday.

Torreira to Fiorentina: Arsenal making a mistake with midfielder?

Torreira is a brilliant midfielder on his day. He had clocked up 89 games for Arsenal before being shipped off to Spain – with Thomas Partey coming in.

The Gunners currently have options; Partey, Albert Sambi Lokonga, Granit Xhaka, Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Mo Elneny. The latter is set to go.

He is out of contract in 2022. Maitland-Niles will want regular game time and he is a target for Everton,

Xhaka is inconsistent, and has been injured – while Lokonga is still learning the ropes at Arsenal. Torreira would have been a useful option.

But Mikel Arteta is seemingly unconvinced. £13million is cheap for Fiorentina, for a player that can easily be a Champions League midfielder.
