Report: Arsenal set to complete £900,000 defensive capture

Defender Omar Rekik has touched down in London ahead of completing a move to Premier League strugglers Arsenal,

The Gunners have apparently agreed on a fee of £900,000 with Hertha Berlin with the move now imminent.

Arsenal couldn’t get the deal over the line in time during the summer transfer window but it looks like being completed in the New Year.

The 18-year-old has played eight games for Berlin’s under-19 outfit this season but hasn’t made a first-team appearance.

Rekik has one cap for the Tuinian international team and operates mainly as a centre-back.

In November, claimed that Per Mertesacker has guaranteed the teenager frequent training with the first-team at Arsenal.

Rekik has played for Manchester City, PSV and Marseille in various youth ranks and comes with a large amount of promise.

With Arsenal’s academy chief, Mertesacker, promising first-team training and the chance to play lots of games with the under-23 outfit, it seems like a decent deal to sign the youngster.

TBR View – Rekik could be fast-tracked if he impresses

Arsenal are quite simply in dire straits right now.

The club is in desperate need of a lift as they languish in 15th place in the Premier League table.

Rekik isn’t the kind of player who will come in and make an impact straight away but the opportunity could arise.

William Saliba isn’t fancied by Arteta and he could be loaned out in January.

That would see Rekik instantly bumped up the pecking order before he’s kicked a ball and the pathway could become clear.

The Arsenal boss doesn’t really have much to lose right now. If the Dutch-born defender impresses for the under-23s and in training, he could be fast-tracked into the first-team.
