According to a report from , Arsenal technical director Edu Gaspar has been offered a chance to sign Corinthians goalkeeper Matheus Donelli this year.

If there’s one area of the pitch where the Gunners have absolutely nothing to worry about, it’s in goal.

Aaron Ramsdale was brought in last summer and he has been one of the best goalkeepers in the country. Bernd Leno lost his place in the side, but he is still a world-class keeper and he has performed really well when called upon.

Arsenal don’t really need a new goalkeeper this month, but Leno will likely move on in the summer and that’s when Edu will have to bring in a quality replacement. Could 19-year-old Donelli be the one?

Edu’s connections in Brazil are arguably the best among all sporting directors in Europe. The Arsenal technical director helped the Gunners secure moves for Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Magalhaes thanks to his contacts in recent years, and he could now bring another Brazilian to North London.

The report claims that Donelli was offered to Arsenal by intermediaries recently, but the Gunners had already been watching the young goalkeeper for about a year at that point.

Edu has even received a 19-page report about the teenager from Arsenal’s scouts, which means that he has all the information about Donelli right on his table at the moment.

The young Brazilian is represented by super-agent Jorge Mendes as well. Edu’s relationship with agents has helped him complete a number of deals at Arsenal already, and this could well be the next one.

Donelli, an under-17 world champion with Brazil, was hoping to become Corinthians’ number one but his side brought in a more experienced goalkeeper for that role. That has reportedly frustrated him and he now wants out.

Edu, who was at Corinthians before he joined Arsenal, would know everything there is to know about him. If he thinks Donelli has the potential to make it at the top level in Europe, the Gunners will likely sign him in the coming months.

However, Donelli will not become an immediate deputy to Ramsdale once he comes in. He will have to develop with the youth sides before he can break into the senior squad, and that might take a while.

If he’s only looking for an immediate first-team opportunity, Arsenal are not the club for him at this moment in time.
