Report: Arsenal rivalling Bayern Munich for defender who idolises Sergio Ramos

that Arsenal are rivalling German champions Bayern Munich for Borussia Monchengladbach defender Nico Elvedi this summer – who has admitted he idolises Sergio Ramos in the past.

Elvedi, 23, joined Gladbach in the summer of 2015 from FC Zurich and has since become one of the first names on the team sheet for the Bundesliga side. Indeed, Elvedi has clocked up a whopping 158 appearances in all competitions, despite his age.

The 17-time Switzerland international helped his Gladbach side keep their Bundesliga title hopes alive on Saturday evening, as they produced an excellent display to beat Eintracht Frankfurt 3-1. But Elvedi’s long-term future is in doubt.

Indeed, the centre-back is due to enter the final 12 months of his contract and that has alerted both Arsenal and Bayern in pursuit of the Gladbach ace – and the report has claimed he is rated at a fee of around £25million.

, Elvedi says he wants to become a player like Real Madrid skipper Ramos: “I like the way he plays out from the back, as well as his aggression. I don’t watch his videos, though.”

TBR’s view – Elvedi could be ideal for Arsenal

A commanding, powerful centre-back that boasts plenty of experience but is still young for a fee that is below £30million is just what Arsenal need. Elvedi, then, is ideal.

A full-fledged international with more than 150 appearances for a top-flight club that are fighting for one of Europe’s biggest league titles, Elvedi is a top, top centre-back that promises to have an enormous future.

If Arsenal can get him for £25million, they will be signing a top centre-back.
